  4. This file provides information on how to update your copy of BBEdit,
  5. version 2.5, to the current (2.5.2) maintenance release.
  6.  
  7. •    NOTE: Since the updater application modifies your copy of BBEdit,
  8.     you should not use it on your original BBEdit distribution disks.
  9.     
  10.     This updater is for use only by owners of the 2.5 release of
  11.     BBEdit. It cannot be used to update a demo, beta, or freeware
  12.     version of BBEdit.

  17. This updater package includes:
  18.  
  19.     -    “Read Me”: this document;
  20.     
  21.     -    “BBEdit 2.5->2.5.2 Updater”: the application to update
  22.             your copy of BBEdit.
  23.             
  24.     -    “2.5.2 Release Notes”: information on improvements in the
  25.             new version.
  26.     
  27.     -    “Updated Extensions”: a folder which contains updated
  28.         versions of some of the standard extensions that ship
  29.         with BBEdit.

  31. Installing the Update
  32. ---------- --- ------

  34. 0.    Make sure you’re using an unmodified, non-beta, non-demo copy of
  35.     BBEdit 2.5.1. If necessary, make a new copy from your original
  36.     distribution disk. If you have installed PopupFuncs, then you’ve
  37.     modified your copy, so you’ll need to get a fresh copy of BBEdit
  38.     before proceeding, and you’ll need to reinstall PopupFuncs after
  39.     you’ve updated BBEdit.
  40.     
  41. 1.    Double-click on the “BBEdit 2.5->2.5.2 Updater” application.
  42.  
  43. 2.    A dialog will come up, asking you to designate the copy of BBEdit
  44.     you’d like to update. Select your old copy of BBEdit, and click 
  45.     the “Update” button.
  46.     
  47. 3.    A dialog will come up, asking you where to place the updated
  48.     BBEdit. Choose the desired location, and click the “Save” button.
  49.  
  50. 4.    The updater will complete its operation automatically. When it’s
  51.     done, you should discard the old version of BBEdit. It’s no longer
  52.     needed, and having multiple similar copies of an application on
  53.     your machine will confuse the FInder.
  54.     
  55. 5.     Drag the contents of the “Updated Extensions” folder into your
  56.     BBEdit Extensions folder, if you have one. If you’re not using
  57.     any extensions, you can skip this step.
  58.     
  59. 6.    Read the “2.5.2 Release Notes” for information on what’s new and
  60.     improved in this maintenance version.
  61.
